SERVICES / Proxmox & Virtualization
Proxmox & virtualization consulting.
Understand the hosts, storage, network, and workloads before changing the virtualization layer. I help small teams plan scoped Proxmox work and document how to operate and recover it.
Discuss this serviceVirtual machines. Clear operating boundaries.
Independent help with Proxmox VE virtual machines, Linux guests, migration readiness, server networking, backup boundaries, and operating documentation. ProxCenter documentation review is part of my professional experience; the NORTHSTAR lab separately demonstrates a Proxmox source workload with an AWS recovery path. This service does not imply Proxmox partner status or vendor support entitlement.
When this is useful.
Small businesses, internal IT teams, agencies, and MSPs running Proxmox or considering virtualization changes and needing independent planning, scoped implementation, or documentation.
- A Proxmox host or Linux guest needs a clearer operating and recovery plan.
- A VMware-to-Proxmox move needs a readiness assessment before committing to a cutover.
- VM backups share a failure boundary with the host they are meant to protect.
What you receive.
- Host, guest, storage, and network dependency inventory
- Migration readiness findings and a scoped change plan
- Agreed VM or guest configuration changes
- Backup location, retention, and restore validation plan
- Maintenance, cutover, rollback, and operating notes
A clear way through.
- Inventory guest workloads, boot modes, storage, network mappings, licensing, and access.
- Confirm hardware compatibility, capacity, backup copies, and the rollback boundary.
- Validate one representative workload in an isolated pilot before scheduling production changes.
- Record application checks and recovery limits, then hand over the operating runbook.
Scope before implementation.
Cluster, storage, high-availability, and migration requirements are assessed before acceptance. Ceph design, vendor support, and continuous on-call operations are not implied. No zero-downtime migration or recovery time is promised without evidence for the actual workload.
Every engagement begins with deliverables, access requirements, acceptance checks, and responsibilities agreed in writing. Work outside that scope is discussed before it becomes a change.
Engineering you can inspect.
From a single Proxmox VM to a repeatable AWS rebuild and verified restore. The NORTHSTAR case study documents the implementation, checks, and limits of an executed synthetic lab.
Can you help assess a VMware-to-Proxmox migration?
Yes. Start with the inventory, guest compatibility, storage and network mappings, a representative pilot, and tested backup copies. The assessment establishes what can be migrated safely and what needs specialist work before a cutover is agreed.
Prepare for a useful first assessment.
Bring an inventory of hosts and guests, current hypervisor versions, storage layout and free capacity, network/VLAN mappings, backup destinations, and the services that cannot be interrupted. Share sanitized summaries first; credentials and confidential configuration do not belong in the contact form.
A snapshot alone does not establish an independent recovery path. Identify which copies survive loss of the host, storage, or site, then test restoration of a representative workload. Read why a backup is not a recovery plan and the backup and disaster recovery service for the recovery scope.

Review engagements and pricing expectations, my background, and practical infrastructure notes before we discuss a scope. Remote work is available for US, Canadian, UK, European, and Caribbean teams, with access and working hours agreed in advance.
